The final S&P Global UK Manufacturing PMI for March fell to 51, down from the preliminary reading of 51.4 and Februarys 51.7. The closely watched output indicator fell to 49.2 from 52.5 in February, the first contraction since September last year. New orders growth slowed. Manufacturers input costs rose to 71, the fastest increase since October 2022, and the month-on-month increase was the largest since the UKs exit from the European Exchange Rate Mechanism in October 1992. S&P stated that the March input cost index primarily reflected rising oil and gas prices and increased transportation costs due to the escalating Middle East conflict.
